I was seriously thinking about switching to Linux because XP is so retardedly annoying and plus I'm using an unregistered copy, and from what I heard XP will be getting more evil soon.
Also, I was gonna downgrade to ME or 98SE but... that's too much effort, and frankly... I don't care that much... well, I do... but I'm too lazy. :D

Its very difficult to use if you dont know what your doing :D. I am thinking about building a duron system just for linux and learn how to use it properly.

the newer realeses of linux are not so bad. the gui is greatly improved. although you will still learn alot of commands to use it properly

1. i recommend manrdake. i couldn't stand the new redhat, really something bout it just rubbed me the wrong way. most of the local geeks i know prefer mandrake as well

2. don't be afraid to screw something up, linux is fairly easy to install and depending on how many programs you want installed with it, it may or may not install quickly.

3. its easier to play around with and not screw things up if you DO NOT use the admin account to learn on. this will prevent you from messing with files that you ought not be messing with unless you know what you are doing.

4. FAQ's, read em, there are so many faqs bout linux floating around, any number of them can help you.

5. there are more, but they will come as you decide you like it or not

personally i would run linux on my main machine, cept for the limited number of games ported. i will have to run windows until game developers realize there is a market for linux ports.

Good point.

If you want help with linux, go to www.linuxnewbies.com

If you want an easy gui distro, go for suse 8.0+.
Suse went freaking nuts with kde to make it look and feel as much as possible like windows.
It will teach you a few things here and there.
Kill that, jump to redhat.
Learn that.
Once you're done, go to slackware.
Then start writing help documents or code for linux.

Have fun. (Coffee is your friend.)
